Founder on a Fleeting Visit — Jimdo Co-Founder Fridel Tours Asia

Fridtjof “Fridel” Detzner is an entrepreneur, enthusiastic sportsman and a world traveler. He’s the co-founder of Hamburg-based website builder Jimdo, which has helped create over 20 million websites. Fridel is also the host of a new TV series for Deutsche Welle called “Founders Valley.” Along with Deutsche Welle, he tours through different countries in Asia, where he meets entrepreneurs and gets to know their unique stories.

Throughout his journey, Detzner gives insights into his experiences as a founder, talks about his encounters with founders in Mongolia, Taiwan or Singapore and reports on their challenges, problems, and their unique solutions.

Nikolaus Förster is editor-in-chief of Germany’s leading entrepreneur magazine “impulse”, providing entrepreneurs with cross-sectoral and supra-regional strategic ideas and support in the daily business. In the course of a management buy-out, Förster took over the brand from the Gruner + Jahr publishing group and founded Impulse Medien in 2013.

For more than eight years, the journalist and founder has interviewed 100 successful entrepreneurs about their bitterest defeats. It is a unique project in a country where hardly anyone is willing to talk openly about mistakes. From the amazing parallels between the individual biographies, Förster derives ten management lessons – for founders and experienced entrepreneurs: principles for sustainable success.

Go West – the SXSW festival as a gate opener for the US market

To conquer the American market – which ambitious startup is not dreaming about it! But let’s face it, consumers und investors in the USA aren’t desperately waiting for fresh companies from Europe, or Germany in particular. You need to make an impressive appearance to get recognized. The SXSW festival in Austin, Texas can be an eminently suitable stage for such an appearance. A great example is Tinnitracks, a HealthTech startup that became the first German winner at the SXSW Accelerator. When it comes to New Work, Maren and Matthias Wagener, an entrepreneur couple sailing distant shores while managing their own company Vast Forward, like to share their experiences and learnings about working from abroad. In 2008 they started out with a project management hub, consisting of Maren and one additional project manager, collaborating with a huge freelance-network of developers, creatives and other specialists, serving the digital advertising market. Talk with Gina Deeble: How teleshopping can make startups big

Nowhere else in Europe consumers use television as intensively for shopping as in Germany. Revenues reached 1.9 billion Euros in 2016, and still counting. Particularly popular are innovative products you can’t buy anywhere else. This offers ideal opportunities to startups which fill in such gaps. In her talk Gina Deeble, Vice President Commerce Platforms at the digital trading company QVC, reveals how startups can make use of the hidden champion of distribution channels. Subsequently she discusses the power of teleshopping with Alexander Djordjevic, Founder of Foodist.

Startups@Reeperbahn 2017 – Version 5.0

For the fifth year in a row, September marks the fifth season of the year for start-ups in Hamburg. This gives young, innovative companies from across Europe a chance to make their pitch at the Startups@Reeperbahn, and to introduce themselves to over 150 investors, corporates, journalists and multipliers from the German digital and media sector. The WELT Media Prize, a media budget of 100,000 Euro, is in store for the winning team of five finalists.

The unique atmosphere of the Reeperbahn scene, combined with the first class audience, offers the participants the chance to network and promote themselves like nowhere else. To round off the pitch event, there will be a full programme of conferences with superb speakers. Last but not least, the legendary Lovemobiles will be carrying out surprise encounters between start-ups and suitable mentors.

After their big presentation, the finalists are whisked off to an exclusive aftershow event. Hamburg Startups and Lakestar, supported by EY, will be matching them with hand-picked investors. This wouldn’t be the first time that the event sparked a long-term and successful business relationship.
