Hamburg Startups takes you to SXSW 2018!
For the fifth time already, we’re making sure that Hamburg-based startups at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, can show that they have it. The SXSW in March is the perfect stage for great business ideas and exciting products. Take this chance and apply for a ticket to Austin at our big pitch!
The success of Hamburg-based startups in Texas has a long tradition. Outstanding was the victory of Tinnitracks 2015 at the SXSW Accelerator – no German company had ever achieved this before. Baqend and Nüwiel, among others, caused a stir in 2017. A ticket for the trip to the USA has already been issued for 2018: Inspirient from Berlin won the Startups@Reeperbahn Pitch in September 2017 and will definitely go to Austin.
In our small SXSW-community in the heart of the Texan capital there is still room for two more startups. Together with our partners from Deutsche Bank, Hamburg Invest, Sutor Bank ans Vast Forward we will not only provide accommodation, flight and of course the festival ticket, but we will also give you the best tips for this spectacular event in advance and on site. Where do the most thrilling speakers perform, where do you meet the most influential investors, and which parties should you never miss? You can find out all this from Hamburg Startups!
6 startups pitchen for 2 tickets – apply now!
At the Hamburg Startups Mixer – SXSW Edition on January 29th, 2018 in betahaus, 6 finalists will be competing for the ticket for the trip to Austin. Like last year, we will be putting the candidates through a small stress test to check their Texas suitability. This calls for quick-wittedness. You will also get the opportunity to introduce your startup in a pitch.
We are looking for startups that already have a marketable product and are showing initial success. If you want to take the next steps, be internationally successful and win influential partners, then you’ve come to the right place with the SXSW. An exciting, inspiring, sometimes strenuous and unforgettable time awaits you there! We will receive your applications by January 20th 2018 (23.59 hrs) at info@hamburg-startups.net.

Startups from Hamburg at SXSW – an overview

- In 2014 three startups went to Austin for the first time to take part in Startups@Reeperbahn – SXSW Edition
- In 2015 startups could join at the German Startup Engine and Tinnitracks won as the first German startup to ever get the SXSW Accelerator
- In 2016 Spherie secured a place in the Accelerator and two other startups made it through the Pre-Pitch as the perfect startup representatives and secured their tickets to Austin.
- 2017 as many as seven startups from Hamburg visited Texas. Here’s a recap.

The South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) takes place each year in Austin, Texas since 1987. Born a music festival, it gradually became the most important event of the digital economy worldwide. Find out more about its historical background here. Hamburg has answered the call for many years and represents one of the biggest delegations. Apart from the Hamburg events, there are of course many other German activities organised, for example at the German Haus.
